SCRAPBOX launches on Steam: Build scrap cars in a game developed with AI assistance

By GameSlash

SCRAPBOX launched November 3. Build and race welded scrap vehicles; HFM Games used generative AI to assist code, UI, voice, music and some 3D assets.

SCRAPBOX, a scrap-built racing sandbox from HFM Games, launched on Steam on November 3, 2026. Players weld wheels, axles, seats, frames and other parts together, then test their homemade vehicles on difficult tracks. It matters to AI-assisted game creators because the developer explicitly discloses generative AI assistance across production work, from programming to audio and some 3D assets—not live content generation during play.

How do you build and race a vehicle?

There are no ready-made cars. Players collect wheels, axles, frames, seats and boosters, weld them into a machine, and test whether it can handle the track. Weight balance, wheel placement, suspension, structural strength and welding affect the physics. A vehicle that fails can be rebuilt and tested again.

The game supports solo play, online co-op and competitive multiplayer, with up to four teams of one to four players each. These are developer-published screenshots, not images captured during a hands-on GameSlash test.

What exactly did generative AI assist with?

The developer's AI Generated Content Disclosure on Steam says generative AI tools were used to assist programming, interface design, voice acting, music, and the creation of some 3D models and other game assets. The developer states that the game does not generate AI content during gameplay. This is not a claim that a complete game was created by a single prompt.

Availability and lessons for indie creators

SCRAPBOX is available on Steam for Windows as of November 3, 2026. The store lists a 15% introductory discount through November 10; pricing varies by region. English is the listed interface language. Indie developers can study how a team incorporates AI-assisted production assets into a conventional physics-based game, while still having to design and test vehicle construction and multiplayer behavior.
