KAEBON nears Steam release: Thai vow-ritual horror discloses AI-made art and music
By GameSlash
Plozila's KAEBON sets 13 nights of Thai ritual puzzles, offering budgets and story clues. Steam lists an October 15 launch, though SteamDB suggests an October 16 Thailand unlock.
KAEBON by Thai indie developer Plozila is approaching its listed Steam launch on October 15, 2026. Rather than relying on jump scares alone, the first-person horror game asks players to carry out other people's unfulfilled vows over 13 nights: study their stories, purchase appropriate offerings and perform the rituals before dawn. The developer's Steam AI-content disclosure says generative AI was used to make images and music for the game.

The ritual is a puzzle, not just a delivery
The store description lays out the loop: take a client job, read letters and clues, explore a location and determine what must be placed at the shrine. The number of incense sticks is an explicit gameplay choice. When a ritual is complete, the character photographs the result to receive payment. An incorrect assumption about a client's story can matter more than simply bringing the requested object.
Offerings cost money, and every return trip takes time
KAEBON also asks the player to shop using the client's budget and manage the hours before dawn. Returning for forgotten supplies remains possible, but travelling consumes time that could have been spent searching for clues or completing the ritual. This gives the seemingly small decision of which items to buy a tangible cost.

Letters and dreams explain the human stories
Notes, photographs and phone messages help players piece together why each vow was made or broken. The game's official description says dream scenes reveal details from the lives of the people connected with a location and that a second playthrough can uncover another side of the story.

AI disclosure and the launch-time caveat
Plozila states on Steam that generative AI was used for game images and music. That disclosure describes pre-made game material; it does not establish that NPCs generate responses during play. The screenshots above are developer-supplied gameplay promotional images posted to ModDB on September 28, not newly released screenshots or evidence that GameSlash played the game.
The Steam store displays October 15 as the planned release date and its cached page still says the game is not yet available. Separately, SteamDB's metadata lists October 16 at 01:18 UTC, equivalent to 08:18 in Thailand, with a prerelease flag. Readers should therefore confirm the live purchase/unlock status rather than assume the game is already on sale on October 15 in Thailand. No price or verified player-review score was available from the cited storefront snapshot.
