Marinara Engine updates Game Mode checkpoints to restore NPCs and inventory

By GameSlash

An October 16 development change adds game metadata and party members to Marinara's save checkpoints, aiming to keep restored AI roleplay sessions consistent.

Marinara Engine's development branch merged a Game Mode checkpoint change on October 16, 2026. According to PR #7746, saved checkpoints now include key game metadata such as the current party, NPC records, quest journal and inventory, so restoring a save does more than merely rewind the scene.

A saved point should restore your party too

Previously, reloading a checkpoint restored turn-related tracker, spatial and engine state while chat metadata kept progressing. An NPC met after the save could remain known, and an item picked up later could persist. The new code stores an allowlisted set of game metadata and the party's character IDs, then restores them in one queued write.

The change deliberately does not rewind every setting, prompt preference, cache or live combat record. It also advances the party-sheet revision instead of rolling it back, so outdated editor forms cannot overwrite a restored save. These boundaries matter to users who expect save/load to restore consistent narrative state.

The PR is merged into the project's staging workflow; this is not independent confirmation that every distributed desktop build contains it. Marinara is a beta AI chat and roleplay/game platform, and GameSlash has reviewed the code explanation and screenshots but not reproduced the save behavior.
