Universal Modder adds cross-platform game checks for AI agents
By GameSlash
A merged October 17 update makes the game-recon Skill inspect OS, CPU, graphics APIs and compatibility layers before an AI agent attempts a PC game mod.

Universal Modder merged PR #339 on October 17, 2026. The update changes its game-recon Skill so an AI coding agent checks whether the player's computer can actually run a target game before attempting a mod, especially across operating systems or CPU architectures.
Check the host before building
The new step 1b applies to Windows-only games on macOS or Linux, x64 games on Arm and unexpected launch failures. It compares OS build, CPU, GPU and graphics API requirements, then looks up per-game reports and options such as Wine, Proton, CrossOver, DXVK and vkd3d-proton. The normal native-game workflow can skip this step.

A new optional Host / compat entry in MODDING_PLAN.md records the machine specifications, compatibility-layer version and evidence from logs or a probe. The documentation says to inspect anti-cheat limitations rather than bypass them, and to confirm the game and loader really start before editing.
The repository's 2D/3D image is a pre-existing asset pipeline example, not a demonstration of the new compatibility step. The maintainer's merge comment noted that a fresh-agent Mac test was still outstanding. This is a documentation and agent-workflow update, not proof of broader game compatibility.
