Tencent releases Game-Creation-Agents, an open-source pipeline for building and checking browser games

By GameSlash

Tencent's GCA public preview uses eight specialized AI agents to design, build and verify Phaser 4 games, with code and setup instructions released on October 14, 2026.

Tencent's Multimodal RL Team announced the first public release of Game-Creation-Agents (GCA) on October 14, 2026. The open-source project is a pipeline for turning a written game idea into a Phaser 4 browser-game project, with design, code, assets and automated checks. Its research paper was posted on October 12.

Eight agents, not one single prompt

The researchers describe eight specialized agents with separate jobs. The workflow starts by turning a natural-language brief into a multimodal game design document, including mechanics, scene requirements and visual references. The design is then converted into a runnable project structure and machine-readable checks.

According to the paper, game scenes are implemented in sequence while assets are generated in parallel. The results are brought together into one build, rather than assuming that separately generated code and artwork will work together without integration.

Checking the game before calling it finished

GCA's documented pipeline checks a specific build through real user-interface captures and gameplay video, then sends blockers back to the agent responsible for the affected file for a limited repair cycle. A code-blind reviewer is intended to judge the rendered result rather than relying only on what the code claims to do. These are the developers' described safeguards; GameSlash has not independently run the system.

The preprint reports better results than a comparison pipeline on requirements, core mechanics, depth and functional visuals, plus a human preference study. Those are author-reported findings under the paper's evaluation setup, not independent evidence that every prompt produces a complete or polished game.

What is available in this first release

The public repository contains source code and setup instructions. The README calls this a public preview and requires Python 3.11+, Node.js 20+, Playwright/Chromium and Claude Code, as well as provider credentials for image generation and video analysis. Verification is not designed to silently skip missing video-analysis credentials.

The repository documents Apache 2.0 licensing for its original code and documentation while identifying separate terms for third-party components. There is no public gallery of verified playable sample builds in the repository folder inspected for this story. Developers can explore GCA alongside other Phaser resources on GameSlash, but should budget for installation, API usage, review and hands-on testing rather than treating the research result as a one-click game launch.
