ARC Raiders Rebounds to 185,000 Steam Players as Frozen Trail Adds ML-Driven ARC Enemies
By GameSlash
ARC Raiders reached 185,443 concurrent Steam users on October 11 after Frozen Trail, its free-weekend promotion and discount. New ARC enemies build on Embark's machine-learning systems.
ARC Raiders' largest update in months has brought a remarkable weekend surge. Steam player tracking recorded 185,443 concurrent users on October 11, 2026, up sharply from the roughly 40,000–44,000 daily peaks before Frozen Trail. The count is from Steam only and reflects the combined effect of a major October 8 update, a limited free-play event and a temporary discount; there is no evidence that an AI feature alone caused the rebound.

What changed in Frozen Trail
The update introduced the snowy Pendola Pass map, new ARC enemies including Bully, Skulker and Hydra, a grappling hook, the Frigate encounter and revamped progression systems. A separate limited pure-PvE trial is due October 13–20; it is a planned test, not a permanent standalone PvE game already available.

Where machine learning fits in
What this means for games and AI
Embark describes months of work combining animation, behavioral systems and machine learning to give its robot enemies their distinctive movement and reactions. This is part of its game-development approach, not a newly launched conversational LLM or AI feature that generates the map for every player. Older technical presentations had already discussed using machine learning for ARC robot behavior.
