THE FINALS Season 12 Adds Dynamic Commentary That Calls Players by Name in Live Matches

By GameSlash

Embark's October 20 PRIME TIME update introduces beta callouts based on match events and usernames, alongside privacy and moderation controls.

THE FINALS launched Season 12, PRIME TIME, on October 20, 2026. Among its changes is Dynamic Commentary (Beta): the in-game announcer Scotty can now call a Contestant by username and describe their standout play using the context of the ongoing match. The feature is described in Embark Studios' official 12.0 patch notes and confirmed in publisher Nexon's October 21 press release.

Which actions can trigger a personalized callout?

Embark gives two examples: landing a Cashbox at a Cashout Station from across the map, and repeatedly reviving teammates to keep a squad alive. The feature turns notable game-state events, including the player and team involved, into new lines integrated with existing commentary. These are match-specific callouts, not a claim that an AI agent makes gameplay decisions or that every spoken sentence is generated from an unrestricted prompt.

The game's Steam AI disclosure states that Embark has used text-to-speech tools for the Scotty and June voiceovers. Dynamic Commentary builds on that audio approach, with lines assembled from live match context. Embark describes this as the first beta version and plans only a handful of eligible moments per match while it tests reliability at scale.

Privacy and moderation are part of the rollout

The developers acknowledge that speaking usernames aloud requires moderation controls. Anonymous Mode prevents the game from calling a player's name to others on the server, while Streamer Mode suppresses commentary lines that mention other players. The same patch introduces updated moderation tools and a privacy setting to disable Dynamic Commentary or block mention of one's own name. The real-world effectiveness of these filters has not been independently tested by GameSlash.

It arrives alongside a major arena overhaul

PRIME TIME also expands gradual destruction, blast-wave reactions, swinging structures, remastered arenas and the Solo Showdown beta mode. Those changes are separate from Dynamic Commentary, but together they increase the range of events that could feel like a live game show.
