Godot Editor MCP stable release adds change receipts and project validation for AI agents
By GameSlash
Version 2026.11.04 adds reversible edit receipts, project-specific GDScript tools and targeted testing for game-making agents.
Godot Editor MCP released stable version 2026.11.04 on November 5, 2026 at 07:21 Bangkok time. This update focuses on making AI-driven edits to live Godot projects easier to verify and reverse, rather than merely generating code. The developer release notes list 201 tools across 29 categories.

What changed for AI game builders
Change receipts now report what a mutating command really changed and whether it can be reversed. Undo checkpoints and a version-control backstop help recover work; destructive operations may require consent tokens bound to the exact command and arguments. The example above shows a node created within an instanced scene that would not save until Editable Children is enabled.
Teams can annotate typed GDScript functions with ## @mcp_tool so the agent can call project-defined godot_project_* tools, with automatic refresh on file changes. The new validate_project tool runs built-in and project validators headlessly. run_tests can target a particular GUT test file or folder and return structured errors.

Install and test limits
Install the stable package with pip install godot-editor-mcp or uv. It supports Godot 4.4 and later, with Godot 4.7.2 the validated target. The separate 2026.11.04b2 prerelease covers Godot 4.8-beta2-specific capabilities; these are not included in the stable package. The release is a tool update, not a new Godot engine release.
For a practical AI game workflow, ask the agent to edit a scene, inspect the receipt to confirm persistence, run project validators or the relevant GUT tests, then review changes before committing. GameSlash reviewed the documentation but did not install or test the tool.
