KAREI – ENDLESS DEATH MATCH has a Steam demo featuring tactical gameplay where enemies move every time the player takes a step. The developer has disclosed using AI to help with some of the artwork.
Phase Co., Ltd., the developer of the Japanese game KAREI – ENDLESS DEATH MATCH, has announced that a free demo will be available on Steam for Windows, as well as on mobile platforms, starting October 10, 2026. The Steam page already features a download button for the demo. Regarding iOS, the company states that there is a reservation page for the app titled KAREI 序章, so users should check the installation status on each store region beforehand.

One of our steps is equal to one of the enemy's steps.
KAREI is a roguelike board-based puzzle strategy game on an 8×8 grid. Players control a female ninja navigating an endless castle. Every time the player moves, enemies move one turn in response. Players must read enemy positions, plan escape routes, and choose to attack rather than spamming attacks.
The demo covers floors 1–10, ending with the first boss, Gashadokuro. It includes scrolls, throwing stars, and camouflage, plus online rankings for the demo season. Floor layouts are randomized each run, so players should not expect the same layout every time.
The developer revealed which parts were made using AI.
In the announcement and on the Steam page, the developers stated that Generative AI was used to create some of the 2D artwork, and AI tools were used to translate text, with the team reviewing and editing the content before importing it into the game. This disclosure means AI was used during the development process, not that enemies in the game learn with AI while playing.
The company has set a schedule for the full game release on Steam in Q4 2026 and stated it will participate in Steam Next Fest in October. Schedules and platforms may change.
