Chainmail & Lead
By Eis Bainana
Take a modern rifle into a fictional Viking battle in 1066. Survive a one-life run and pursue a combat rank in this free Windows playtest.
One soldier, a rifle, and armies from another era: Chainmail & Lead explores that premise in a free Windows playtest.

A rifle on the battlefield of 1066
Chainmail & Lead starts with an anachronistic scenario. According to the game’s website, a single modern soldier carrying a rifle enters the battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066 to help the English army fight almost 500 Vikings. The fictional setup puts modern firepower among swords and shields.
The website’s highlight video shows the soldier from an over-the-shoulder perspective as large groups of fighters clash across open ground. The footage includes a scoped aiming view and combat around an objective ring, with the interface tracking health, ammunition, and the soldiers remaining on each side.

One life per run, followed by a rank
The rules listed by the developer are straightforward: death ends the run, which receives an S, A, B, or C rank based on KO count and headshot ratio. That gives the premise both a survival goal and performance figures to try to improve on a later attempt.

An experimental project inviting feedback
Eis Bainana introduced the project to the AI Game Dev Thailand group with the words “Claude + Unity,” inviting people to download the playtest and share feedback. The tool-use description comes from the developer’s own post.
For players interested in the modern-soldier-meets-medieval-armies premise, the game’s website lists Playtest Social2, dated October 17, 2026, as a free 183 MB ZIP download for 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11. These version and download details reflect the website checked on October 19, 2026.
