Game VFX Database: Free In-Game VFX Reference Library
By GameSlash
Explore and analyze real-game VFX clips with frame stepping, filters and comparison tools. Free for study, not downloadable assets for use in games.
Game VFX Database is a free reference library of short real-time VFX clips captured from games, including impacts, explosions, magic, smoke and lighting effects. It helps game developers and VFX artists study effects before building their own.
Clips can be searched and filtered by game, VFX type, technique, engine, color and visual style. Linked tags and game pages save time when searching for a specific effect instead of scrolling through long gameplay videos.

Study VFX frame by frame
The player offers frame stepping, A–B loops, grayscale viewing and color sampling. Other tools include Reference Comparison for synchronized clips, Deep Study for detailed frame analysis and Moodboard for organizing references.

Free references, not downloadable VFX assets
The site provides free references and study tools, not ready-made VFX assets for direct use in Unity, Unreal Engine or Godot. The footage remains owned by its rights holders, and the site limits the shared clips to non-commercial study and critique. Do not resell, redistribute, or place someone else's clips in a commercial game without appropriate rights.
