KooCraftEng (กูคราฟเอง)

By Mayta Noynon

A 2D browser survival demo with a block world, nearby zombies, hunger and crafting recipes for tools. Play on a computer.

KooCraftEng (กูคราฟเอง) is a 2D side-view survival demo by Mayta Noynon, playable in a browser on Dev.INut’s itch.io page. Its world is built from dirt and stone blocks, with trees, animals and zombies visible early on. Hunger and a crafting menu add things to manage while exploring.

Start exploring, with zombies nearby

Starting a game takes players straight into the world without an account. Simple colored blocks distinguish grass, dirt and stone, making changes in ground level easy to read. The character can walk and jump across the terrain, with an item hotbar at the bottom of the screen.

A zombie near the starting point dealt 10 health points of damage per hit. When health ran out, the character respawned at the starting point. Hunger also fell during play, the clock advanced, and the weather indicator changed from clear to rain. Exploring involves keeping an eye on both enemies and the character’s condition.

Controls and mining range

The on-screen guide lists A/D to move, W or Space to jump, and Shift to run. Left-click mines or attacks; right-click places blocks or interacts with doors and beds. I opens the inventory, F collects items and G drops them.

Mining and placement have a maximum range of three blocks. A warning appears in the upper-right corner when a target is too far away. The guide also says blocks other than dirt require a pickaxe, so both distance and the equipped tool matter when a mining attempt fails. Holding left-click on a nearby grass block and pressing F to collect it added one grass block to the inventory and hotbar.

Check recipes with C

C opens the crafting list. Early recipes turn one log into four planks, then one plank into four sticks. A crafting table requires four planks. Wooden tools and a campfire are also listed, giving players a way to plan what to make from the resources they find.

Each recipe lists its required materials, while the right-hand panel shows the status of nearby crafting tables. The craft buttons were greyed out while the required materials were missing. The list helps players choose what to gather first, although successfully crafting an item was not tested.

Play on a computer and keep your save file

The creator specifies that this demo is for computers. Tab opens the system menu with a save button; loading a save file from the computer is handled from the game’s main menu. File loading was not tested. The creator’s post explains this arrangement.

The opening will suit players who enjoy exploring block worlds and using recipes to plan their tools. Quick access and persistent control hints make it easy to start trying things, though the zombie near spawn calls for caution from the outset. This review covers the opening and crafting menu of the v1.0 demo.
