Monster Arena Master

By Serza501z

RPG featuring monster capture on Astrocade, exploration, partner selection, and real-time combat with attack/defend stances, unique skills, and a dojo for training partners.

Monster Arena Master is an RPG where you catch monsters on Astrocade, explore the city, choose a partner, and then battle wild monsters. The early game connects exploration with team building using real-time combat.

Explore and select a companion

At the start of the game, there is the OakHaven City and an area to select the first monster. You must walk close to the monster of interest before selecting it as a partner. The navigation system displays messages indicating the target and the remaining distance. Monsters display their name, level, element, and rarity level for viewing, such as Flamepup with the Fire element and Aquatail with the Water element found in the early stages.

Real-time combat and team capture

When encountering a wild monster, the arena opens with health bars for both sides. The combat screen features buttons to switch stance between Offensive or Defensive, plus unique skills for the partner. For Flamepup, there are both attack and defense moves, along with status messages indicating readiness, making the clash feel continuous, while the player has command options displayed below the arena.

Capture Orb is used to catch monsters after winning a battle. Members successfully caught will be added to the team and can be selected as the main partner via the TEAM menu. This menu displays each monster's element, stats, and EXP, so it can be used to view partner information before selecting one to deploy in battle.

Train your partner to gain EXP in the city.

The dojo in the city offers training that uses gold to exchange for EXP for monsters. The same menu displays Strength, Speed, and Accuracy values along with explanations of what each stat contributes, as well as stat allocation options, allowing players to further develop their partner after leaving the combat arena.

For players who enjoy collecting companions and exploring

An interesting feature is the ability to walk around the city with characters and approach monsters before transitioning to see a partner enter the battlefield. Monsters have distinct colors and shapes, making it suitable for those who enjoy a cycle of exploration, combat, and gradually unlocking new partners to use.

The menus and descriptions found early on are in English, and the vertical screen along with the status bar and multiple skill buttons require reading move names and statuses alongside observing the field. This opinion is based on selecting a partner, battling, and catching wild monsters, training at the dojo, and switching partners in the team.
