V-Ray 7 Update 5 adds AI agent MCP workflows and image-to-3D assets in Chaos Cosmos

Chaos released V-Ray 7 Update 5 on November 5, 2026, adding an AI Assistant, MCP connections for supported 3D scene operations, and reference-image search and 3D model generation in Chaos Cosmos. For game artists, these changes offer a way to prepare and preview environment assets with AI assistance before bringing any approved content into their game production pipeline. They do not mean V-Ray is a game engine.

AI agents can inspect and modify supported scene settings

Chaos says compatible assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude can inspect scene details and adjust supported lighting, materials, cameras and render settings through MCP. The official MCP documentation confirms that dedicated V-Ray MCP servers support SketchUp and Rhino. For 3ds Max, compatible third-party 3ds Max MCP servers can access V-Ray scene objects; this is not a dedicated official V-Ray MCP server for 3ds Max. Users should verify tool permissions and review changes in the host application.

What changed for 3D asset look-development

Chaos Cosmos adds image-based search for similar models and materials and can generate a 3D model from a supplied image. The integrated AI Assistant can offer Sky Match lighting, Cosmos asset recommendations and render feedback. For a small game team, this can shorten concept and look-development while preserving a manual stage for model cleanup, optimization and licensing checks.

A practical flow is to choose a mood reference, search or generate a candidate model in Cosmos, place it into a supported 3D scene, adjust lighting with an MCP-connected assistant where available, and inspect the result. These are visualization and asset-preparation steps. Chaos does not claim in the announcement that generated meshes are automatically optimized for real-time game engines, and exports, texture baking and commercial use rights require separate checks.

Platforms and availability

Update 5 is available for V-Ray on 3ds Max, SketchUp and Rhino, with different AI/MCP integrations by host application. The official 3ds Max November 5 release notes identify V-Ray 7 Update 5 and support for 3ds Max 2022–2027. V-Ray is commercial software and pricing, subscriptions and AI asset terms should be checked before production use.
