Epic plans to remove Blueprints from UE6, move gameplay to Verse and support AI via MCP

At Unreal Fest Tokyo, Epic outlined UE6's shift away from Blueprints and C++ gameplay to Verse/Scene Graph, with model-flexible AI workflows via MCP and UE5.9 Preview next week.
At Unreal Fest Tokyo 2026 on November 3, Epic Games outlined a major architectural shift for Unreal Engine 6: gameplay development is set to move from Blueprints and the C++ Gameplay Framework to Verse and Scene Graph. Epic Games Japan published its official event recap on November 5. This is a future UE6 direction, not a removal of Blueprints from currently shipping Unreal Engine 5.

What changes in Unreal Engine 6?
According to Epic Games Japan's official recap and a first-hand report by Game Makers, Epic plans to remove Actors, Blueprint visual scripting and the C++ Gameplay Framework from UE6 rather than merely deprecate them. Verse and Scene Graph's entity/component approach will become the core of gameplay authoring. C++ will still power lower-level engine systems such as rendering and physics; the entire language is not being removed from Unreal.
The first UE6 Early Access is targeted for late 2027. Epic says it will first validate the transition in Fortnite and share migration learning and tools with the community. Specific conversion tools for existing projects have not yet shipped, so there is no need to assume current UE5 projects must migrate today.
Why is AI part of the decision?
Epic says its approach is to let developers connect their preferred AI models through MCP plugins instead of tying Unreal workflows to a single provider. The company argues that AI can understand structured Verse code more reliably than Blueprint graphs. That is Epic's planned direction, not proof that agents can already port complex existing games autonomously.

UE5.9 preview and what creators can do next
Epic Games Japan says a UE5.9 Preview is expected the week after November 5, featuring AI workflow improvements, the web as a target platform, and rendering and animation upgrades. It is a preview announcement, not evidence of a fully released stable UE5.9 build on November 5.
Teams building games in UE5 can continue on that branch. Developers interested in UE6 should explore Verse and Scene Graph in UEFN and follow Epic's migration guidance before changing production code. The biggest implication for AI-assisted development is that the structures coding agents will read and edit are changing.
