OMEA expands its AI-driven RPG demo with a new sci-fi story and dice system

AImmersive's October 19 OMEA update adds Echoes in the Abyss, a ten-sided dice system and local speech features. We separate the new demo from older press-kit images.
On October 19, 2026, AImmersive released a substantial update to the existing free OMEA Steam demo. It adds the complete science-fiction investigation Echoes in the Abyss alongside the earlier Odin’s Trial, while revising how story actions, visual scenes and dice checks work. The team detailed the changes in its official Steam announcement; the October 19 update record confirms the timing. This is a demo update, not a newly released full game.

The second adventure changes the scope, not just the artwork
The new Echoes in the Abyss shifts from Odin’s Trial’s fantasy setting to a hostile science-fiction world. OMEA lets a player type or speak what their character attempts instead of only selecting a fixed dialogue response. Human writers define the scenario and characters, while the game's Narrative Intelligence responds to player decisions. The October update adds character breathing and motion, more spatial depth in rooms, and endings with epilogues. These improvements are developer-reported; GameSlash has not independently tested them.
Dice are now a structured part of free-form decisions
The revised resolution system rolls a pool of ten-sided dice against a target. Tens generate bonus dice, additional successes unlock boons, and too many ones can attach a cost to success. Players can use the situation around them to gain an extra die, push their luck, or spend a Story Point to turn one die into a ten. That creates an explicit rules layer around actions the player describes freely rather than relying only on AI narration.

Audio can run locally—but that does not mean the whole game is offline
According to the studio, speech recognition now runs locally on Windows, Mac and Steam Deck. On Windows PCs equipped with a GeForce RTX card, character speech synthesis also runs on the player’s GPU. The announcement does not establish that OMEA’s entire narrative model is processed offline or give independent latency benchmarks, so those claims should not be inferred.
Why the update matters: OMEA connects free-form player input to an authored world, numerical outcomes and in-game consequences. Unlike a conventional report of a game made using an AI coding assistant, this is an update to AI-native gameplay itself. The free demo is part of Steam Next Fest, October 19–26, 2026, while the full game remains unreleased.
