Sony files a patent application for AI NPCs that adapt to each player's style

By Gameslash Editorial

Patent application US 2026/0295429 A1 describes using NPC combat data to generate new behavior with a model. It is not yet a feature in a released game.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has a patent application published on October 1, 2026, titled "AI-adapted non-player character for video game system." It proposes using data from encounters between players and NPCs to feed into a machine learning model to generate content or character behaviors that adapt to each individual.

The data the system may use includes attack patterns, evasion, defense, and collision results, which are then processed and fed back to the game to adjust NPCs for the next encounter. This approach could be applied to bosses or teammates, but the request does not specify which game it will be applied to.
